Investigation Uncovers Chilling Plot Behind Man’s Death in Surat
Surat Murder Case: A shocking murder case has come to light in Gujarat’s Surat city, where a married woman and her alleged lover have been arrested for allegedly conspiring to kill her husband and disguise the crime as a suicide. The incident, which initially appeared to be an accidental fall, was later revealed to be a carefully planned murder following a detailed police investigation.
The case was reported from Rahmat Nagar Society in the Ved Road area under the jurisdiction of Chowkbazar Police Station. Authorities say the accused woman, frustrated by frequent domestic disputes with her husband, allegedly plotted the murder with her lover so the two could continue their relationship without opposition.
Marital Disputes Allegedly Led to the Conspiracy
According to police, the victim, 42-year-old Janmajay Kumar Tirth Rai, originally from Jharkhand, lived in Surat with his wife Chandnikumari. Investigators found that the couple often argued over personal and financial issues. Police sources said disagreements regarding household expenses and other domestic matters had strained the relationship for a long time.
During this period, Chandnikumari allegedly developed a relationship with Shulabh Singh Bahadur Singh Bam, a man originally from Uttar Pradesh who had previously lived near her residence. Investigators believe the two had been discussing ways to remove the victim from their lives for several months.
Police suspect that the alleged conspiracy was not impulsive but rather the result of prolonged planning driven by personal motives and ongoing tensions within the household.
The Night of the Incident
Investigators said another argument reportedly took place between the husband and wife on June 7. Later that evening, the victim returned home and went to sleep. According to the police investigation, Chandnikumari allegedly contacted her lover late at night after confirming that her husband was asleep.
Police claim that Shulabh Singh arrived at the residence shortly afterward. The two accused are alleged to have lifted the sleeping victim and pushed him from the second floor of the building onto the road below.
However, the fall did not immediately kill him.
Authorities believe that when the accused later realized the victim was still alive and breathing, panic set in. According to the police version of events, the lover allegedly returned to the scene and attacked the injured man with a sharp object, inflicting fatal injuries to his neck.
Medical findings later indicated that excessive bleeding and severe injuries were responsible for the victim’s death.
Suicide Theory Raised Suspicion
Following the incident, an attempt was allegedly made to present the death as either an accident or a suicide. Police initially received information suggesting that the man had fallen from the building.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Raghav Jain said investigators were first informed that the case appeared to be a suicide. However, certain circumstances surrounding the death raised doubts.
“Initially, we received information suggesting it was a suicide. However, there were some doubts regarding the death. Further investigation revealed the murder. The wife and her lover had planned to portray the murder as a suicide,” Jain said.
Based on the initial information, police registered an accidental death case and began routine inquiries.
Post-Mortem Report and CCTV Footage Exposed the Truth
The turning point in the Surat Murder investigation came after the post-mortem examination. Medical experts reportedly found injuries on the victim’s neck that were inconsistent with a simple fall from a building.
The findings prompted investigators to examine the case more closely. Police teams reviewed CCTV footage from the area and noticed suspicious movements by an individual around the time of the incident.
Using the evidence collected from surveillance footage and other leads, investigators questioned the victim’s wife in detail. Police said inconsistencies in her statements eventually led to a confession regarding the alleged role of both accused in the crime.
Murder Charges Filed Against Both Accused
Following the investigation, Surat Police arrested Chandnikumari and Shulabh Singh. A criminal case has been registered against them under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to murder and criminal conspiracy.
The Surat Murder case has drawn significant attention due to the disturbing nature of the allegations and the alleged attempt to mislead investigators. Police officials have stated that further legal proceedings are underway and that additional evidence will be presented before the court as the case progresses.
The incident serves as a reminder of how thorough forensic analysis, CCTV evidence, and detailed police work can uncover the truth even when a crime is initially disguised as an accident or suicide.
