Tarnetar Fair 2026: With the much-awaited Tarnetar Fair set to take place in Surendranagar district from September 14 to 17, Gujarat Police have stepped up security preparations across the fairground and surrounding areas. Range IG Nirlipt Rai visited Tarnetar and reviewed the arrangements being made to maintain law and order during the four-day traditional festival.

Ahead of the fair, the Special Operations Group (SOG) carried out extensive checking operations in and around the area. Hotels, guest houses, shops and scrap yards were inspected as part of the security drive. During these checks, police registered a total of nine cases against people found violating administrative rules and official orders.

Of the nine cases, three were registered under the Gujarat Police Act, while six cases were filed under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for violations of public orders.

SOG Conducts Intensive Security Checks

The SOG teams conducted surprise inspections in Chotila and Thangadh areas before the beginning of Tarnetar Fair 2026. Hotels, guest houses and shops were among the establishments checked by the police.

During the inspection, officers verified whether proper records of visitors and guests were being maintained through the designated PATHIK application. Police also checked the functioning and proper use of CCTV cameras installed at various locations.

Scrap dealers in the area were also brought under scrutiny. Their purchase and sale registers were checked carefully to ensure that there was no suspicious activity or unexplained movement of goods. The inspections were carried out with the aim of identifying possible security concerns before large crowds begin arriving for the fair.

Nine Cases Registered for Rule Violations

The police took legal action against individuals found violating administrative regulations and official orders during the checking campaign.

A total of nine cases were registered. Three cases were filed under the Gujarat Police Act, while six were registered under Section 223 of the BNS for violating notified orders.

Police officials have made it clear that the intensive checking drive will not be limited to the pre-fair period. Similar inspections will continue in Chotila and other areas surrounding the Tarnetar Fair venue to maintain a secure environment for visitors and local residents.

Range IG Nirlipt Rai Visits Tarnetar

As part of the preparations for Tarnetar Fair 2026, Range IG Nirlipt Rai, along with the Surendranagar district police chief and senior officers from different divisions, visited the fair venue to assess the overall security arrangements.

During the visit, the senior officers first offered prayers and sought blessings at the historic Trinetreshwar Mahadev Temple, which holds an important place in the Tarnetar Fair tradition.

Following the temple visit, the officers carried out a detailed review of the security arrangements across the fairground. More than 2,500 police personnel are being deployed to manage security during the event.

Focus on Crowd Control and Traffic Management

With thousands of visitors expected to gather at Tarnetar, crowd management and traffic control remain key priorities for the police administration. Senior officers reviewed the deployment plan and examined arrangements for managing the movement of visitors and vehicles around the fairground.

The officers also discussed the emergency security plan and provided necessary instructions to the police teams involved in the deployment. Officials have been directed to remain alert and ensure that security arrangements are implemented effectively throughout the fair.

The Tarnetar Fair is one of Gujarat’s best-known traditional cultural gatherings, attracting visitors and devotees from different parts of the country and abroad. As Tarnetar Fair 2026 approaches, the Surendranagar police administration is leaving no room for laxity in security preparations.

The combination of advance checking, surveillance, crowd management, traffic arrangements and the deployment of more than 2,500 police personnel is aimed at ensuring that the four-day celebration from September 14 to 17 takes place peacefully and safely.

For the police administration, the priority is clear: maintain law and order, keep a close watch on sensitive areas and provide a secure environment for the large number of people expected to attend Tarnetar Fair 2026.
